On Feeling Sad

Is it possible to feel sad and still trust the Lord and believe in his goodness?
Friends are huge blessings that we should never take for granted because you never know when you may have to say goodbye. {No matter how temporary the farewell, they are always difficult.}

    God didn't create us to be robots. Many people have a problem with Christians because they seem fake. They'll just pretend to be happy even when they aren't. Just because you are sad, doesn't mean you aren't trusting God and believing in his goodness - that's ridiculous. It's OK to be sad.

  2. Absolutely!
    Happiness and sadness are temporary and tied to our circumstances. How great that we were wonderfully created with feelings! And thankfully there is also JOY in faith - in love - and in communion with the Father - that is unchanging regardless of our circumstances!

  3. Shannon,
    your post made me think, which is usually a good thing and I believe the purpose of your blog, on the topic of joy. I did a search on "joy" in blueletterbible.org because I had a specific verse in mind in what I thought was Jeremiah. Turned out that the concept of the verse was in Lamentations 3: 21-26 (spoken by Jeremiah but the exact reference actually in Nehemiah (the verse that says the "joy of the Lord is my strength" Nehemiah 8:10)
    The verse in Lamentations speaks of having hope in God's compassion after utter devastation had come to Israel,actually speaking from the ruins that were once Israel. The camp director brought these verses to us last summer as we ministered to campers out of our own grief/hardships, and he with a wife who was experiencing the final stages of life.
    No, we don't always feel like God is here with us but it is in these times that God surrounds us completely.
    Thanks for sending me on a "wild goose chase" through scripture today.

  4. Just as every thing else, we should thank God for the blessing of friendship while we still have it. Lovely post. :)
